Mr Huw E Roberts

President of Anglesey Agricultural Society 2025

It is a great honour to have been elected as President of the Show this year. Looking back to my younger days, coming to Anglesey Show with my father as a boy, I could never have imagined that I would stand here today as President. The Show has been a huge part of my life, and it is a privilege to have the opportunity to give something back to this incredible society.

I have been farming at Glan Gors, Llangaffo, since 1982, and my whole family shares the same passion for agriculture and the Show. My daughter, Catrin, helps run the Sheep Section during the Show, while my sons – Iwan, Dylan, and Gerallt – assist with the maintenance of the section’s site. I have been Chief Steward of the Sheep Section since 2016, and it fills me with pride to see the section thriving year after year. My wife, Anne, also plays a huge role in supporting the Show, and I want to thank her for her unwavering support, not only throughout the event but also during my time as President this year.

My showing journey started not with sheep but with Welsh Mountain Section A horses. I was fortunate to enjoy a fair bit of success at prestigious shows like the Royal Welsh and, of course, right here at my local show, the Anglesey Show. This was my first step into the world of showing, which eventually led me to showing sheep, something that has become a huge part of my life and my family's involvement in the Show.

As a family, we have been showing sheep at the Show for many years. My wife, Anne, shows her Poll Dorset, while I exhibit Wiltshire Horns. Being part of such an important tradition is an honour, and the Show provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase our work and connect with other farmers.

One of the most valuable aspects of being involved in the Show is the chance to meet farmers from all over the country, build new connections, and make lifelong friendships. The support within the farming community is invaluable, it is essential that we uplift and support each other while also demonstrating to the public the vital role of Welsh farmers. Agricultural shows serve as a shop window for our industry, an opportunity to celebrate our work, educate the public, and showcase our expertise and commitment to farming.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Council in 2019, and last year, I had the pleasure of judging the Interbreed Championship – an experience I will never forget.

As President, I look forward to a successful year for the Show. I encourage anyone considering volunteering to get involved, it has been a pleasure for my family to be part of this Society, and the opportunities and connections that come with it are truly invaluable.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the dedication of the staff, volunteers, and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the Show’s continued success year after year. A huge thank you to everyone, especially the Sheep Section stewards, for their outstanding efforts.

I wish everyone taking part in the Show this year the very best of luck, and, of course, let’s hope for some fine weather! Thank you very much!
