Miss Elliw Griffith

Anglesey Agricultural Society Ambassador 2025

I am a farmers’ daughter, originally from a small village called Penisarwaen, near Llanberis, but have lived on Anglesey for the last 5 years. Farming and the world of business are part and parcel of my life, with my parents having diversified to Funeral Directing and to Monumental Work, mainly gravestones. I have a degree in Welsh from Cardiff University and a Masters degree from Bangor University, however in my day to day work I am a Monumental Mason working in the Monumental Works in Llanrug. I have been a member of the Federation of Young Farmers in Wales since the age of 11, starting out my journey in Caernarfon YFC, before joining Dwyran YFC in 2017. During my time as a member of Anglesey YFC I’ve had the opportunity to be a Club Chair, County Treasurer and Chair of the Events and Marketing Committee for Wales YFC. A few years ago I was also fortunate enough to be a representative for Anglesey YFC on the Anglesey Agricultural Society Council. In my spare time I enjoy singing and being a part of Côr Esceifiog, playing the piano, reading and going on adventures with Bob the dog!

Agricultural shows have been an integral part of my life especially through the horse world. My Father and Grandfather exhibited shire horses for years across the country under the prefix ‘Trem y Wyddfa’ and the stud continues to this day. I have numerous fond memories of the show and several of them include exhibiting the shires with my family in the Main Ring at Anglesey Show. Having lost my father in 2016 those memories are priceless and I’ll treasure them for the rest of my life. The Anglesey Show and several other agricultural shows are an integral part of the agricultural calendar, and create an opportunity to bring the community together as well as an opportunity for families to create lasting memories beyond the farm.

It was an honour to be chosen as an Ambassador for the Anglesey Agricultural Society and to be a small part of its rich history as well as being a part of shaping its future for the next generation. So far I have been very fortunate to experience the Show from various aspects, as an exhibitor within the Main Ring, a visitor walking through the Show stands and as a member of Anglesey YFC volunteering on the trade stand at the Anglesey Show and Winter Fair. This year, it will be a different experience again, having the privilege of seeing the hard work behind the scenes come to fruition with the Show and the Winter Fair.

With agriculture facing one of its most turbulent times, our agricultural shows are on the forefront and have never been so important. They are the shop window for agriculture in the UK, displaying the best that we have to offer, but they also play an essential role in educating the public about the essential role that farmers and agriculture play in their day to day lives. In my role as an Ambassador this year I hope to be worthy of the role and to be able to build and strengthen the relationship between agriculture and the public.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Society and its members for entrusting me with the role of Ambassador I look forward to working with you all throughout the year. I am eager for the challenge and look forward to meeting new and familiar faces at the Anglesey Show and Winter Fair. Until next time!
